Rwanda’s industrial output grows by 8.5% in june 2025 – new NISR report

A new report from the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) shows that the country’s industrial output increased by 8.5% in June 2025 compared to the same month in 2024.

Looking at the full year, from June 2024 to June 2025,industrial production rose by 6.4%, reflecting steady growth across several sectors.

Key drivers of this growth include a 17.7% increase in mining and quarrying activities, alongside a 2.3% rise in manufacturing output. This was largely influenced by a 24.6% surge in food processing industries and a notable 28.9% increase in the production of non-metallic mineral products.

Electricity generation also recorded a 12.5% rise, while water supply and sanitation services grew by 3%.

The general manufacturing sector grew by 2.3%, mainly due to gains in agro-processing industries and those that work with non-metallic minerals, which posted increases of 24.6% and 28.9% respectively.

However, the report also highlights a decline in certain subsectors. The chemical and plastic products industries saw a drop of 13.9%, while the output from metal products, machinery, and related equipment decreased by 6.6%.

Rwanda currently counts over 1,300 factories, which play a vital role in boosting exports.

In March 2025, the government announced that industrial production had tripled since 2017, rising from RWF 591 billion to RWF 1.68 trillion, mainly due to the country’s efforts in value addition and product transformation.
