World Bank grants $255 million to boost Rwanda’s Green investments
The World Bank has provided Rwanda with a $255 million grant (approximately 355 billion Rwandan Francs) to enhance private sector investments that prioritize environmental sustainability, supporting the nation’s green growth agenda.
The funds will be utilized under the Green Finance, Investment, and Trade Project (GreenFit), a program designed to empower private sector initiatives aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, including through carbon market opportunities.
This project aligns with Rwanda’s goal to cut emissions by 38% by 2030.
It also reinforces the global call for developed nations—key contributors to climate change—to invest in developing countries like Rwanda, which bear the brunt of environmental degradation.
Private sector players are expected to intensify their contribution to Rwanda’s development ambitions, especially as the country targets middle-income status by 2035.
Notably, women-led businesses and entrepreneurial ventures are prioritized under this program to ensure inclusive growth.
