RDF 38 officers urged to uphold excellence in securing Rwanda and beyond
The Commander of the Rwandan land forces, Maj. Gen. Vincent Nyakarundi, has called on 38 officers from the Rwanda Defence Force and Rwanda National Police who completed military studies to distinguish themselves in their daily duties. He emphasized their crucial role in strengthening Rwanda’s security and contributing to the stability of the region.
Maj. Gen. Nyakarundi delivered this message on Friday, October 13, 2023, during the graduation ceremony at the Rwanda Defence Force Command and Staff College in Nyakinama, Musanze District.
Over the five months of training, the officers were equipped with advanced knowledge in military strategy, leadership during peace and wartime, security management, politics, and international relations.
Maj. Scovia Umuhoza expressed her gratitude, stating:“These were advanced and impactful lessons. We were trained to navigate challenges effectively, ensuring that as soldiers, we can protect and defend our country under any circumstances. Personally, I’m taking away a wealth of knowledge to enhance my role in ensuring security.”
Maj. Kayihura Kagiraneza added:“The training was transformative, imparting professional military leadership skills. Through books, discussions, and hands-on exercises, we learned that resilience and determination are key to achieving any mission. This knowledge was essential.”
In his address, Maj. Gen. Nyakarundi urged the graduates to consistently analyze and address challenges in a professional manner.“In your daily work, you must continuously identify and resolve obstacles with the professionalism you’ve gained here. This will strengthen our armed forces and help us achieve the vision of building the Rwanda we desire. Excellence demands unwavering dedication and reliability in all your responsibilities.”
He further emphasized:“To succeed, you must clearly understand the purpose of your mission and think strategically. Stand out by working with foresight and delivering results that set you apart. These principles should not be confined to you alone but should extend to regional and international collaborations.”
This 21st cohort of trainees included 38 participants—36 military officers with ranks of Major and Captain, and two police officers holding the ranks of Superintendent and Chief Inspector. The program began on May 29, 2023.
During the ceremony, graduates received certificates, with outstanding performers, Maj. Roland Kamanzi Kalisa and Capt. Alain Paul Nsabimana, awarded special recognition.
The event was attended by high-ranking officials from the military, police, civil authorities, and family members of the graduates.
