Muhabura Integrated Polytechnic College Celebrates its 6th Graduation Ceremony
The Muhabura Integrated Polytechnic College (MIPC), located in Musanze District, held its 6th graduation ceremony on Friday, December 6, 2024, honoring 152 students who successfully completed their studies across various disciplines.
Among the graduates was 57-year-old Vincent de Paul Hakizimana, who completed an Advanced Diploma in Civil Engineering (Construction Technology).
Hakizimana expressed his gratitude, emphasizing how this achievement will enhance his career in construction, a field he has worked in for years. He shared that the advanced knowledge he gained will complement his hands-on experience and modernize his approach to the profession.

Despite challenges in the past, including the disruption caused by the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, Hakizimana’s determination to pursue education never wavered.
“I initially studied technical teacher training but faced hurdles when I attempted further studies in Butare and later Musanze IPRC. After the genocide, I switched to teaching briefly before venturing into construction. However, advancements in technology inspired me to resume my education,” he said.
Hakizimana highlighted the transformative impact of modern technology in construction.
“In the past, we created building designs manually, which posed challenges when clients sought permits that required digital blueprints. This led me to enroll at MIPC to master software like ArchiCAD and AutoCAD,” he explained.
He also shared how his academic journey set a positive example for his children.
“Learning as an older person didn’t embarrass me—it motivated my children to value education. They saw me revising my notes and working on projects, which inspired them to adopt a disciplined approach to their studies,” he said.
While Hakizimana doesn’t plan to pursue a Master’s degree due to his age, he is committed to lifelong learning to expand his expertise.
Call to Action for Graduates
Northern Province Governor Maurice Mugabowagahunde commended the institution for nurturing capable professionals and encouraged graduates to apply their knowledge in solving societal challenges.
“We applaud this institution for providing skills that address pressing needs in construction, electricity, ICT, and tourism—key sectors in this region. We urge graduates to leverage their knowledge to combat issues such as genocide ideology, poor hygiene, malnutrition, school dropouts, substance abuse, and unemployment,” the governor said.
Bishop Augustin Ahimana, the college’s Chancellor, reminded the graduates of their responsibility to maximize the value of their education. Quoting Proverbs 15:15, he emphasized humility, diligence, and continuous learning as paths to success.
“Graduation marks the beginning, not the end. Keep striving for knowledge and innovation to make meaningful contributions to the country,” he said.
Graduates pledged to use their expertise to make tangible contributions to society, leveraging their education for national development.
