BK partners with Kivu choice to boost Rwanda’s aquaculture industry

Bank of Kigali (BK) has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing Rwanda’s agriculture and livestock sectors through a partnership with Kivu Choice Ltd, a company rapidly transforming the country’s aquaculture industry.

This collaboration, valued at RWF 5 billion, will initially allocate RWF 1 billion in its first phase. It is one of BK’s flagship initiatives aimed at strengthening its support for agriculture and livestock, while contributing to Rwanda’s national goal of achieving food security.

Agriculture and livestock are pillars of Rwanda’s economy, and BK has pledged to support their modernization by providing financial solutions to innovative companies like Kivu Choice. This partnership aims to ensure the production of affordable and nutritious food.

Aquaculture, in particular, plays a critical role in supplying nutrient-rich food, creating jobs for Rwandans, and improving livelihoods in rural areas. Through this partnership, Kivu Choice will be able to expand its operations and scale up fish production nationwide.

Dr. Diane Karusisi, CEO of Bank of Kigali, expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “This collaboration with Kivu Choice is a game-changer for Rwanda’s agriculture sector. We are committed to supporting innovative fish farming businesses, ensuring affordable and nutritious food while fostering rural development. At BK, we believe that investing in agriculture is not just about growing food; it’s about driving inclusive economic growth and building resilience for families reliant on aquaculture.”

Kamran Ahmad, Founder and CEO of Kivu Choice, emphasized the importance of the partnership in achieving their objectives. He said, “Our partnership with BK will significantly expand our operations, utilizing cutting-edge technology to accelerate our impact and meet market demand. We are excited about the opportunity to address the challenges of food scarcity and nutritional deficiencies in Rwanda.”

In addition to boosting Kivu Choice’s production, the company is expected to increase its workforce from 350 to 1,200 employees within three years.
