Governor Soraya receives new IMF representative to discuss ongoing cooperation and programs
Governor Soraya M. Hakuziyaremye of the National Bank of Rwanda (NBR) welcomed Dr. Habtamu Fuje, the newly appointed Resident Representative of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Rwanda, for a courtesy visit at the bank’s headquarters.
The meeting provided an opportunity to strengthen dialogue and assess ways of collaboration between the IMF and NBR.
During the discussions, both parties reviewed the IMF-supported program currently being implemented in Rwanda, evaluating progress made and identifying areas where additional support is needed.
Governor Soraya emphasized Rwanda’s commitment to maintaining macroeconomic stability, promoting sustainable economic growth, and supporting financial and economic inclusion for all citizens.
Dr. Habtamu Fuje highlighted that the IMF continues to support Rwanda’s development agenda and is ready to work closely with NBR in implementing reforms and providing technical assistance.
Key topics discussed included monetary policy, strengthening the resilience of the financial system, and measures to enhance the country’s capacity for economic monitoring and financial assessment.
The courtesy visit demonstrated the strong partnership between the IMF and Rwanda, reflecting a shared commitment to sustainable economic development, sound financial management, and achieving development goals.
The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to maintain regular consultations and explore further avenues for cooperation, aimed at strengthening collaboration with international financial institutions.
