RE4SG 2025: Driving Africa’s Renewable Energy Transition from Kigali

The Renewable Energy for Sustainable Growth (RE4SG) Conference and Exhibition has emerged as a cornerstone platform for advancing renewable energy solutions in Africa. Building on the success of four previous editions held in Kigali in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2024, the 5th edition promises to make an even greater impact.

Over the years, RE4SG has played a catalytic role in unlocking investments, shaping policies, advancing renewable energy technologies, promoting green transport, expanding access to clean cooking solutions, and opening new pathways for climate finance and carbon credits.

The conference has also highlighted gender inclusivity in energy transition, strengthened knowledge sharing, and fostered partnerships among key stakeholders across the continent.

The 2025 edition, themed “Empowering Africa’s Energy Future: Innovation, Transition, and Sustainability,” will scale up the event into a truly pan-African platform. It will bring together policymakers, private sector leaders, investors, innovators, and development partners to address the continent’s pressing energy challenges and explore emerging opportunities.

The conference will run from tomorrow, September 9–10, 2025, at Norrsken House Kigali, alongside a five-day exhibition and matchmaking program scheduled for September 8–12 at Kigali’s Car Free Zone (Imbuga City). Organized by the Energy Private Developers Association (EPD), in partnership with Strathclyde University and the Global Renewables Center (GRC), the event will showcase Rwanda’s energy journey while providing an international stage for business partnerships and investment opportunities.

Among the key highlights will be discussions around Mission 300—an ambitious initiative led by the World Bank Group and the African Development Bank, in collaboration with development partners, to provide electricity access to 300 million Africans by 2030.

Africa’s energy sector faces unique hurdles, from low electricity access and dependence on traditional biomass for cooking, to limited financing for renewable projects. Yet, Rwanda’s ambitious energy targets are proving that innovative solutions and bold commitments can chart a new path for the continent.

By convening stakeholders at the intersection of innovation, finance, and policy, RE4SG 2025 aims to accelerate Africa’s energy transition and empower a sustainable future for generations to come.
